It is time to register for the 23rd annual Footlights and Greasepaint Youth Theatre Retreat.
Actor Arch Ellwein has performed from coast to coast in 2400 shows and brings that wealth of experience to a theater camp for boys and girls ages 9 to 15. Preparations are well underway for the 2018 Footlight and Greasepaint Youth Theatre Retreat, which will be held July 9 through July 15. Theater camp headquarters will be St. Matthew’s gymnasium at 310 7th Street SE in Sidney, MT.
Over the years hundreds of students have enjoyed learning about the art of theatre and this year will be no exception.
Joining the staff will be Humanities Montana scholar Matt Matthews of Hysham, MT. Mr. Matthews is a dance instructor and will lead sessions on community dance. Students will produce a show called “The Blabbermouth, The Wolf and The Puff Monster” and will incorporate their dance instruction in the show.
These strange and funny folk tales of the Ukraine will delight all ages and will be presented through special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc. of Englewood, Colorado.
The theatre camp week climaxes with the public performance at St. Matthews, Saturday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. MDT. An exciting part of the theater camp experience are previews at the noon Kiwanis meeting on Thursday, July 12 at the Sidney Elks Lodge and another at the Crestwood that evening at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, July 13 the campers visit the Lodge at 3 p.m. The F&G YTR will also participate in the Sunrise Festival of the Arts and perform on the stage Saturday, July 14 at 3 p.m. Campers will be in for a special treat as a road trip to the Fort Peck Summer Theater is planned on Sunday, July 15 to join the audience for the 4 p.m. performance of “The Leader of the Pack”.
