Youth ages 10 to 12 are invited to participate in the McKenzie County Junior Master Garden Program to be held from 5 pm to 6:30 pm on Fridays, May 11 and 18 and on Wednesday evenings (same time) thereafter. Classes will be held at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds in the 4-H Building with planting taking place behind the Homemaker Building next door.
Gardeners will be planting and caring for their own vegetable and flower square foot gardens. Most classes will provide hands-on experiences including planting both seeds and transplants, weeding and harvesting plants. Classes will include learning about soil, food preparation, recipe sampling, serving our elderly through their gardening, garden touring, farmer’s market and much more.
In addition children will learn about relationships, cooperation, respect and much more through their gardening experiences.
Later on this summer, the gardeners should be bringing vegetables home for the families!
