A Free Concert by Pianist Scott Kirby
"Critics call Scott Kirby one of the best interpreters of ragtime music on the scene today." Charles Osgood, CBS Sunday Morning
The Long X Arts Foundation is excited to present Mainstreet Souvenirs, a concert by pianist Scott Kirby on Saturday, February 24 at 7:30 pm at the Watford City High School Theater.
The concert is free and open to all ages and is a kickoff event to the organization's first membership driven concert series that will feature three quality concerts in the 2018/2019 season, as well as reciprocity with four additional communities.
In search of the American Heartland, Scott Kirby presents a multi-media stage performance which features live piano music, a spoken narrative and a video presentation. This performance will serve as an example of the quality entertainment that members of the Watford City Concert Association will enjoy.
The music in the first half of the program will span about 150 years of American pop, jazz and folk music, including tunes by Scott Joplin, Stephen Foster, John Philip Sousa and many others continuing up to present time.
The second half will feature Kirby's original compositions for piano, his original paintings, old photos from long ago all joined together as he plays piano and talks about the history of the American Great Plains and prairies. The visual "projected" dimension of the program accompanies both the narrative and the music throughout the second half. Scott talks about small town American life and times and his comments will bring back wonderful memories to the members of the audience.
Scott was first a musician and fine pianist, but his artistic passion grew to include visual art, and he has completed 75 paintings and 28 piano compositions. He now lives in Boulder, Colorado and divides his time between composing, painting, performing and teaching.
