The Richland County Commissioners and LYREC are sponsoring a presentation on Active Shooter Defense by Patrick Hoy.
There you are. You just walked into your office building and greeted the security guard at his desk inside the main entrance, as you do every morning. You notice your friend standing in line at the coffee counter and decide you need a mocha this morning, too. While standing in line for coffee, chatting with your colleague, you hear a very loud “POP, POP, POP!”
Behind you, near the entrance, people start screaming and dashing about frantically. The security guard is slumped in his chair. There is a man pointing a gun at people furiously pulling the trigger. You feel overcome by the thought: “Oh, no! It’s happening here!”
What do you do?
This question, and many more, are answered by Patrick Hoy in his Active Shooter Defense briefing. He will share his research findings and personal experiences while serving in the U. S. Air Force as an A-10 attack pilot. Patrick is passionate about spreading a message of hope and empowerment to all. He accomplishes this with his insight of preparedness through better understanding of the ‘Active Shooter Phenomenon’ and alleviating fear that goes along with uncertainty of “what can I do?” By the end of the presentation viewers will have vital information to help everyone develop their individual plan for responding to - and surviving - such a situation.
The presentation will be on February 6, 2018 at 6-8 a.m., 3-5 p.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m. (you can attend any session you like) The presentation will be held at the Richland County Event Center.
