DECA Class Celebrates 12 Days of Christmas

This is the first year that the Watford City High School DECA class put on such an event. The McKenzie County Library in Watford City held this event for the DECA students and the community members that attended every day. It was held when DECA replaced the former school group of FBLA.

As many people are familiar with FBLA which stands for Future Business Leaders of America. DECA which may not be as familiar with, has been around for nearly 70 years and has impacted the lives of more than ten million students, educators, school administrators and business professionals since its founding in 1946. DECA also prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

DECAs programs and activities have constantly evolved as they use the latest technology and apply cutting edge educational research. Its organized into two unique student divisions each with programs designed to address learning styles, interest and focus of its members. The High School Division includes 3500 chapters, 200,000 students.

Mr. Cody Brooks is the High School Teacher who is now in charge and changed the group from FBLA to DECA. On the day I was there, December 13, there were only 2 young girls with a Mother that attended. The student, little girls and parent had a good time with the coloring activities that Gracie had chosen for that days' activity to go along with the book.

The DECA student starts out by reading a book for that day, then there is an activity that completes the program. Gracie enjoys working with kids and plans on going on to college for a career that will keep her in a field that she enjoys.
