Rural Leadership North Dakota Short Course set for Watford City

Does your community have a need for a project that you are interested in? Do you think your community can benefit from a project that you have in mind?

If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, the Rural Leadership North Dakota Short Course may be just the thing you have been looking for to get your project off the ground.

The Rural Leadership North Dakota (RLND) Short Course is an NDSU Extension Service sponsored program whose purpose is to provide leadership development opportunities to citizens across western North Dakota and eastern Montana.

Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership effectiveness attributes, learn effective communication skills, understand and manage conflict, understand how people grow/change as leaders and understand the importance of service/volunteerism. All of these learning opportunities will be achieved as participants work on their chosen community project.

The RLND Short Course program will consist of five sessions that will run from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm CST in Watford City. The dates for the sessions are Tuesdays—October 10, 24, November 7, 21 and December 5. Session topics will include an orientation to discuss your community project, discuss the RLND program and group activities to enhance networking capabilities; understanding behavioral styles of individuals; learning effective communication skills; understanding and managing conflict; and discussing rural living topics such as assimilating into small communities, the seven capitals of healthy communities, how to approach people and getting things done in small communities.

The RLND Short Course is open to anyone in western North Dakota and eastern Montana that desires to be an active learner through project work and who wants to work on a community project in which they have an interest and they feel will benefit their community.

The tuition for the RLND Short course is $250 per participant and includes noon lunches, breaks and all short course materials. For McKenzie County residents, possible tuition assistance is available.
