Saturday, September 16th is the 19th Annual McKenzie County Heritage Day and the 25th anniversary of the McKenzie Heritage Association. Festivities begin at 11AM Central time in Heritage Park in Watford City, and all are welcome to celebrate. Admission is a free-will donation.
Beginning at 11:30, the District I Cattlewomen will serve slushburger meals for $5 to prepare you for day-long festivities. A program to honor the country as well as recognition of several special individuals will take place at noon.
Throughout the day, Bob Petermann, cowboy poet and musician, will provide stories and music. An old-time photo booth, displayed artwork, rabbits, tractors, food and games will be available, until the close of the celebration at 5PM.
Kids’ activities are scheduled throughout the day, from a sack race to who can hand on to an egg the longest, followed by finding the coins in a straw pile at 3PM. The Long X Arts Foundation will be providing art lessons, and Miss Karen Shaide will be in period dress and play an old time school teacher in the Nelson School. She will teach brief school lessons, starting at 1130, and again at 2pm.
Steve the Blacksmith will be demonstrating a horse-shoeing, and Leroy DeFoe will have his horse on display. Also on display will be rabbits from the Borderlands Rabbit Club, with the possibility of winning a rabbit to take home. From 1 to 3PM, a saw mill, threshing machine, stationary bailer and horsepower demonstrations will take place on the north end of the park.
