On Friday, August 4th, the Richland County Fair & Rodeo arena will be flooded with pink for the annual "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" fundraiser.
Event sponsors Duane and Sherry Mitchell, The Lucky Buckle, and Mike's Hard Lemonade/Blue Rock are encouraging you to wear pink to support the local Cancer Aid Fund. The Fund receives $3 for every patron wearing pink that evening. Patrons will be counted by the ticket-takers, so pink must be easily visible and significant, such as a shirt, pants, dress or sweatshirt. Cancer Coalition members will be handing out drink cozies and other giveaways prior to the start of the rodeo.
The Cancer Aid Fund supports patients with a cancer diagnosis who are living or undergoing cancer treatment in Richland County and surrounding areas. The goal of the fund is to offset the added financial and emotional burden of cancer treatment. Funds can be used for non-medical household expenses, such as rent, utility bills, or even Thanksgiving dinner. These expenses often become a burden as focus shifts to cancer treatment. Other local avenues are available to help with medical-related expenses.
Patients are grateful to receive funds. "I can't tell you how much this has helped to alleviate stress, and how thankful I am," said one Fund recipient. Another recipient, who began treatment in Sidney and completed it in Billings, said "I am humbled with your generosity to help me financially in this fight for my life! I couldn't have done it without you!"
Though the trademark "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" is a national initiative, 100% of the funds generated through the rodeo remain local. The fund helped 39 patients in 2016-2017, and to date, has given $106,750 to patients since it was created in 2013.
In preparation for the event, Cancer Coalition members will be painting the windows of area businesses, and The Lucky Buckle will hold Pink Day on July 26th. Pink shirts and other pink merchandise will be available for those who have not purchased their apparel yet.
The "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" PRCA Rodeo begins at 7:30 at the Richland County Fair & Rodeo arena. Tickets are available at the Fair Office. Call 406-433-2801 for more information about purchasing tickets.
