Richland County Disaster & Emergency Services (DES) and the Montana National Guard are conducting an exercise in Sidney, MT today, July 26th
In the event an emergency or disaster exceeds the capability of local government, county officials may request support from the State of Montana, including the Montana National Guard. This exercise is especially unique because National Guard Soldiers and Airmen were not given any advance notice for today's test.
Richland County DES will have an opportunity to test the process to request state assistance. The scenario for this exercise involves responding to a hazardous material that requires additional support from the National Guard's Civil Support Team. The National Guard will send personnel and equipment from Helena on a military aircraft. The aircraft is expected to arrive mid-morning and will depart by early afternoon.
Residents may see military aircraft, vehicles from the Montana Civil Support Team, and uniformed soldiers and airmen in Sidney throughout the day.
For questions, please contact the Richland County DES Coordinator, Deb Glibert, at 406-433-2220.
