The 6th softball tournament to honor the lives of Sherry Arnold and Janae Moore will be held on Saturday, June 17th, at the South Meadow Softball Complex in Sidney.
The first tournament was held in 2012 to celebrate the life of Sherry Arnold, a long-time softball player and coach. In 2014, the name of the tournament was changed to include Janae Moore, a young Sidney resident and avid softball player.
The tournament is open to teams of all ages and abilities, and includes co-ed teams of families, friends and businesses. “Janae’s classmates always have a team,” her mother Terri said. “It’s nice to see their faces. It’s a really nice memorial”.
Raffle prizes are given throughout the day, and concessions will be available. A $100 entry fee per team is required, with $50 due at sign-up. Registration for two teams is offered at $150.
Proceeds from the tournament are returned to the community in the name of Arnold and Moore. Previous funds have been used to purchase a scoreboard for the softball complex bearing Sherry’s and Janae’s names, and sponsorship for a local baseball team.
