These are the top AR point earners, by grade, at West Side Elementary School. L to R: Nicholas Jorstad, the second highest point earner in third grade with 203.1 points; Madycen Sanders, the highest point earner in first grade, with 142.1 points; Josh Pollari, the highest point earner in second grade, with 231.7 points; and Oliver Slade, the highest point earner in the Sidney Elementary Schools, with 643.5 points this year. To put this in perspective, the student with the second highest points is a 5th grader with 316.2 points. Accelerated Reader (AR) Points are earned by the difficulty and number of books read for the year. Oliver is also our only student to achieve Accelerated Reader Classic Reader certification this year. To be a Classic Reader one has to read independently, and pass with an 80% or higher, three books at a 6.0 level or higher worth seven or more points. This is the second year he has won this, as he did as a second grader last year, too. For his achievements this year, Oliver received a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble and a pin.
