The Fairview Boxing Club will host the Montana State Golden Gloves Championship this Saturday, April 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Fairview High School gym. Tickets are $10 with children aged 8 and under admitted free. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Club's annual scholarship. Souvenir t-shirts and hoodies will be for sale and great concessions will be available.
This USA Sanctioned event features boxers from Eagle Butte and Spearfish, South Dakota; three Canadian teams; plus Great Falls, Billings, Miles City, Helena and Hamilton, MT. The winners will advance to Regionals in Salt Lake City, with those victors going on to Nationals in Lafayette, GA.
Fairview boxer Liam Baxter will battle Michael Dugan from Hamilton for the Golden Gloves. Other outstanding boxers for Fairview include Brock Schlothauer and brothers Riley and Rowan Bushnell.
Expect some outstanding action from National Silver Gloves champion, 14 year old Richard Hoops from Fort Belknap, as well as many more of these fine athletes.
Serving in various capacities including officiating will be Duran Caferro Jr. from Helena. Caferro made it to the 2012 Olympic trials, but stopped competing due to injury. He continued his career as a pro, fighting all over the US and Europe, and now has an impressive 16-1 record. He has also been offered an opportunity to fight 2012 Olympian Jose Ramirez for the USA National Lightweight Championship.
It's going to be a great night of boxing so make plans now to attend!
