The people of Denmark are considered to be among the happiest in the world despite their harsh winters. During these times, it is a custom to make family, friends and relaxation a top priority. On Friday, February 10th, The McKenzie County Pioneer Museum in Watford City will be hosting a Community Hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”), a pleasant Scandinavian tradition of comfort and relaxation. The event, intended as an atmospheric, candle-lit environment where adults in the community can socialize, will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
People living far from home and members of the community can come to listen to music, play board games, meet new people and enjoy hot chocolate, cider, pastries and other refreshments provided by local businesses.
Ladies from the McKenzie County Public Library will be in attendance to recommend good books, especially on the Hygge lifestyle.
The McKenzie County Pioneer Museum intends to make this event the first of many to celebrate the customs of cultures around the world. Find a babysitter and come out to celebrate this celebration of Scandinavian tradition!
Tickets are free and required for entering drawings for door prizes. Tickets are available at the McKenzie County Library and the McKenzie County Pioneer Museum. For more information call the museum at (701) 444-2990.
