North Dakota Petroleum Council Accepting Applications for Al Golden Scholarships

Applications Due April 1, 2017

Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) is seeking applicants for the Al Golden Memorial Scholarship program, which will provide a $2,000 scholarship to nine qualified college students pursuing a post-secondary education in geology, engineering, processing plant technology, science, technical skills or other careers related to the oil and gas industry. The application period will remain open until April 1.

“The state has continued to experience a shortage of qualified workers within the energy industry. As activity picks up and more of our veteran workers near retirement, this shortage will only become more pronounced,” said Ron Ness, NDPC president. “This scholarship will help ensure the next generation of energy workers by providing the necessary resources that will allow them to obtain a degree and pursue a rewarding career in one of North Dakota’s largest industries.”

Al Golden Scholars are selected based on academic achievement, a demonstrated commitment to a qualified area of study. Students must be attending a North Dakota college or university and remain a full-time student for the Fall Semester of 2017 and Spring Semester of 2018.

At a minimum, applicants must earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have completed 12 hours in geology, earth science, geological/petroleum engineering, chemistry, math or safety.

The Al Golden Memorial Scholarship Fund is named after North Dakota oil pioneer and the first member of the NDPC’s Hall of Fame, Al Golden. The scholarship is funded by individual and company contributions, as well as proceeds from the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference. Since 2008, the program has awarded more than $60,000 to Al Golden Scholars.
