PGA Professional and former Sidney Eagles head golf coach, Ryan Troxel, has been named Coach of the Year by members of the Montana Coaches Association. Troxel has coached the Eagles' girls and boys golf since March 2015. He resigned earlier in December due to time constraints with a baby on the way.
Under Troxel's guidance, the girls' golf team took home the Class A state championship this fall.
"With the girls' team having the pressure on them all season as the favorite to win, ultimately fulfilling that and being able to bring the state title back to Sidney was a great experience," Troxel said. "I was really happy for the girls to be able to do that."
Troxel also noted that watching athletes' progression and overcoming their struggles has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of his coaching career.
Prior to coaching in Sidney, Troxel was the general manager and head golf professional at Eaglerock Golf Course in Billings. He became an avid golfer at a young age thanks to his father, and he finally decided to make a career of it after college. Troxel is currently the head golf professional at Sidney Country Club.
"I wish all the kids the best of luck in the future," he said. "I think the program is going to be strong and very successful again next year."
