Sidney Young Professionals (SYP) will be holding a winter clothing drive Dec. 8th – 16th; donations can be dropped off at the donation box housed at Meadowlark Public House, 117 S Central Ave in Sidney. The kickoff begins during the SYP monthly meeting, Thursday, Dec. 8th at the Meadowlark Public House from 6pm – 8pm. The recently formed group is seeking donations other than coats, such as boots, hats, gloves, scarves, snow pants, socks, and long underwear in children’s sizes. Donated items will be distributed to Richland County schools.
“We knew there was a need because we have educators on our board,” explained SYP board member Katie Dasinger. “One of our goals is to fill the gaps between other organizations’ service projects, such as the LYREC coat drive, Edward D. Jones toy drive, and the Lions’ and Kiwanis’ ‘Gifts from the Heart’ drives. We didn’t want to detract from other fundraising events, so we focused on meeting supplemental needs.”
SYP is a business service with the purpose of creating networking opportunities and outreach through events and classes, as well as developing a social element that highlights what Sidney has to offer outside of work. It was also formed as a way to address the high turnover of young professionals in the area, acting as a resource for businesses to help them recruit and retain employees.
SYP meets the second Thursday of the month, and is open to anyone in Richland County. There is no cost to attend, however the group asks for at-the-door donations to help cover the costs of the monthly meetings.
The Dec. 8th meeting will start with appetizers and social, and includes a 30-minute program, addressing some of the needs of young professionals in the area. They invite the pubic to visit with them about their organization when dropping off donations.
