Upcoming Programs
Williams County Extension Service has a few programs coming up over the next few weeks.
Bovine Connection, this program is starting back up! This was a great program put on by North Dakota State University Extension Service and Montana State University Extension Service, but had died out over the last five years. MSU Extension and NDSU Extension Service decided to bring this program back to the area. The day will be November 29th in Culbertson, MT. The time will start at 9:00a.m. MT and end at 5:00 p.m. MT. There are some great speakers lined up to bring us a day of information. Starting the morning off is Lisa Pederson from NDSU Extension Service. Lisa is NDSU’s Beef Quality Assurance Specialist, she recently just won the 2016 National Beef Quality Assurance Educator of the Year. Pederson will talk about Strategic Culling: Improving Your Cowherd. Following will be Dr. Gerald Stokka, NDSU Livestock Stewardship Specialist. Stokka will be discussing the upcoming VFD implementation in his presentation The VFD, What do I need to know? This will be a huge change for those in the livestock industry, great for cattle producers to attend and listen to this talk. Throughout the day there will be a number of other great presentations. The Bovine Connection will be at the Culbertson Saddle Club, and the cost is $25 a person. For questions or more information please contact Jeffrey Chilson, from Roosevelt County Extension at 406-787-5312.
The following day in Tioga will be another cattle program, November 30th, Changes and Nutrition for Beef Producers. This program will be at the Pinnacle in Tioga, starting at 10a.m., registration is at 9:30a.m. This event costs $25 to attend, lunch and Beef Quality Assurance certificate are included in that cost. Please pre-register for this event at 701-577-4595 to plan for dinner. At this program, Dr. Stokka will be discussing the Veterinary Feed Directive again, John Dhuyvetter from North Central Research Extension Center will be discussing Feeding Scabby wheat to cattle, Lisa Pederson will be offering the Beef Quality Assurance program, earning yourself a certificate at the end of the class and I will be discussing ditch hay quality in Northwest North Dakota.
