On September 4th, Fort Union will transition to new winter hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Central Time). The site is open daily throughout winter except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays. These hours will be in effect until Memorial Weekend, 2017.
During winter, visitors are invited to explore the Bourgeois House Visitor Center featuring a staffed information desk, exhibits, and park videos. Exhibits include artifacts recovered during the extensive archaeological excavations that made the fort’s reconstruction possible. Park videos highlight different historical topics of Fort Union’s vast fur trade history. Also available is the Fort Union Association bookstore selling reproduction trade goods and books.
Fort Union Trading Post is located 24 miles north of Sidney, Montana and 25 miles southwest of Williston, North Dakota, via highway 1804. While here, visitors are encouraged to tour the reconstructed fort, trade room and bourgeois house. Fort Union is free of charge to visit. Stop in at the visitor’s center to get the latest updates, changes and upcoming events, or visit our website at http://www.nps.gov/fous or on Facebook.
