Dare to Prepare at the Richland County Fair!

The American Red Cross (ARC) local Disaster Action Team (DAT) will be busy volunteering again at the Disaster and Emergency Services (DES) booth at the Richland County Fair this year, August 3-6, 2016! DES and ARC Richland DAT together strive for a high level of interaction with the general public on preparedness topics. All fair goers are invited to the DES booth located in the Agriculture Building to have fun while learning to prepare.

New this year is information on ICE contact card which is one of the safety and preparedness resources created by Save the Children in partnership with Scholastic and inspired by the upcoming film Ice Age: Collision Course. More information can be found at http://www.savethechildren.org/site and using the phrase "ICE" in the site's Search function. The DES booth also includes the promotion of the ARC Emergency App and a children's game/App called Monster Guard. These FREE Apps promote emergency preparedness and prevention. Volunteers also will hand out bags containing information sheets on preparedness.

As in the past, DES and ARC volunteers will administer daily quiz questions to the general public. Each correct answer to a quiz question wins the participant a raffle ticket. With the raffle tickets, participants enter for the drawings for the great prizes to be given away! Preparedness-themed prizes have been donated by our local business community and will be on display at the fair booth. Last year adults completed 415 quizzes while kids completed 219 quizzes. Help us beat that record! We are looking forward to seeing you at the Richland County Fair this year!

ARC Richland DAT members are prepared to assist our community in situations like home fires, natural disasters, or other emergencies. ARC Richland DAT meets on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 PM at the Nutter Building and the meeting is open to the public. For more information on volunteering with ARC, join us at one of our monthly meetings or go to http://www.redcross.org/local/montana
