Watford City Mayor Seeks Lt. Governor Spot

Watford City Mayor Brent Sanford is campaigning as the lieutenant governor candidate on the ticket with gubernatorial candidate Doug Burgum.

“I view this as a positive for western North Dakota to have a voice from our area as part of the ticket,” Sanford, a Republican, said. “It’s a great opportunity for the western part of the state that I will be just a phone call away.”

Sanford has been on Watford City’s city council for 10 years including the past six as mayor.

Election day is June 14 in North Dakota. Sanford has been busy campaigning in Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck as well as many western North Dakota communities.

“People in the west have concerns about the economy and concerns if everything will level off,” Sanford said. “People are pretty realistic. Everybody is really focused on what’s the new normal.”

Sanford described Burgum as “kind of the poster boy for a diversified economy” and a supporter of the energy industry.

Sanford mentioned that government’s regulations are hurting the state’s and the country’s economy.

He noted Burgum feels there needs to be reasonable regulations and only reasonable taxes.

“We are in a ‘Y’ on the road, it’s an election about the past or the future,” Sanford said. “Doug is a visionary business leader.”
