Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has grants of up to $3,000 available to help volunteer water quality monitoring groups cover the costs for laboratory analysis of their samples. These groups provide valuable water quality information to stakeholders in their watersheds and to DEQ.
The DEQ has approximately $12,000 of federal Clean Water Act grant funding available to assist local groups in their efforts to protect and restore surface and ground water. The grants are available to fund laboratory analysis of water and sediment chemistry samples and shipping costs.
Applicants can be local watershed groups, conservation districts, a county extension service, counties, schools, etc. Eligible projects include existing or anticipated water quality monitoring projects related to non-point source pollution. A DEQ approved Sampling and Analysis Plan will be required prior to conducting sampling.
Applications are being accepted through April 18, 2016 at 5 PM and may be subject to a competitive process. Awardees will have until February 2017 to complete their monitoring projects.
