Parenting Classes for Families of Preteens/Teens Offered

Active Parenting of Teens: Families in Action will be held on 4 evenings in February at CrossPoint Church in Watford City. Classes will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm CT on Mondays—February 8, 22, 29, and Tuesday, February 16.

All parents and their children ages 11 to 18 are invited to attend the classes.

The curriculum for preteens and teens emphasizes character development as a means to equip them to survive and thrive with special emphasis on the qualities of courage, cooperation, respect, responsibility and self-esteem.

The adult classes will cover the skills necessary for developing these qualities in their children while at the same time handling behavior problems and enhancing family satisfaction. These skills include discipline, communication, problem solving, family enrichment and encouragement.

This program has been used with thousands of people with much success. Impacts parents report include improved attitude and behavior of their children.

Trained facilitators will work with preteens/teens and parents in separate groups. The program is video-based and interactive and classes will include group discussion and practice activities. Both parents and children receive workbooks.

If it is not possible for preteens/teens and parents to attend classes together, parents may attend classes without their children and children may attend classes without parents. It is encouraged that both attend classes as a family.

This course is free of charge. To register your attendance, please call the McKenzie County Extension Office at 701-444-3451 or CrossPoint Church at 701-444-2355 or email [email protected] or [email protected].
