Sidney Health Center is partnering with the Richland County Health Department on Thursday, October 1 to provide various health screenings for the general public in conjunction with a mass flu shot clinic. The Flu Shot and Wellness Clinic will be held at the MSU Extension Service Building located north of Sidney on the east side of the highway. Doors will open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Flu shots will be provided by the Richland County Health Department for ages 6 months through adults 99+ years. No appointment is needed during the clinic. The cost of the flu vaccine will vary from $32 to $55 depending on the individual’s age and the type of vaccine used. However, Medicaid, Medicare, and Healthy MT Kids along with some insurances will be billed for those who bring their cards, otherwise cash and checks are accepted.
In addition, Sidney Health Center will be offering various health screenings at reduced or no cost. Screenings are quick assessments or tests that help identify individuals who may be at risk for disease or health complications. A few of the screenings available are blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, oxygen level, a non-fasting blood draw for diabetes and a sleep apnea risk screening.
The non-fasting blood draw for diabetes is known as the Hemoglobin A1C test. This test provides an average of an individual’s blood sugar control over the past 2 to 3 months. It is helpful in identifying how well one is managing their diabetes or can identify someone who may be at risk for diabetes. The test will be provided at a reduced rate of $30 during the Wellness Clinic hours on October 1.
Also the Sidney Eye Care Center will be onsite offering visual acuity screenings as well as Glaucoma testing. White Drug will have a representative present to answer questions on the Zostavax vaccine. Zostavax is an FDA licensed vaccine that helps to reduce the risk of getting herpes zoster (shingles) in individuals 50 years of age and older.
