Local individuals interested in an in-depth look at gardening are encouraged to enroll in the Master Gardener Program to be held weekly for ten Friday mornings starting October 2 and ending December 11 (no class week of November 23). Sessions will be offered via webinar technology from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm CT at the Extension Office Meeting Room in Watford City.
For some of you, weekday morning classes conflict with your work schedule. For others, distance from classroom training sites are a problem. Now, you can watch online lectures when it is convenient for you from the comfort of your own home. All assignments and quizzes will be available online. If you have questions, you can post them to a private online bulletin board and receive quick responses. The online training program dates are the same as the classroom option. An active email account, high speed internet access, and good computer skills are a requirement for this class. Sorry, but dial up internet access will not work.
Cost to participate in this program is $150 with the contribution of 48 volunteer hours of sharing of the individual’s expertise in the community or $400 without the volunteer hour contributions.
This program is offered by the North Dakota State University Extension Service and classroom training will be provided by professionals in their respective fields. Upon completion of the Master Gardener Program, participants will be well schooled in more than 30 topics that include annuals, perennials, trees, fruit production, vegetable production, and turf. You will also learn the basics of soils, entomology, plant diseases, fertilizers, and diagnosing plant problems.
Registration for the Master Gardener Program is online at: https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/mastergardener. Registration deadline to enroll is Friday, Sept 11.
