The 2nd Annual Ribbon Walk event will feature a new celebration and memorial ceremony. Live butterflies will be released in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of those lost to cancer.
"Butterflies are a symbol of new life and we felt it was a perfect way to celebrate cancer survivors and honor loved ones we've lost," stated Toni Zieske, Ribbon Walk committee member. "For the cancer survivor, it is the celebration of facing a difficult battle and finding new hope and life. For those releasing in memory of a loved one, it is remembering the joy and happiness of having them in our lives and releasing them to a new and better place."
The Ribbon Walk Butterfly Release Ceremony will take place on Friday, June 19 at 6:00 PM at Swanson Field at Sidney High School. Gates will open at 5:00 PM and a Cancer Survivor lap will follow the Butterfly Release Ceremony. To purchase a butterfly to release at the Ribbon Walk, contact any team member or stop by the Foundation for Community Care located at 221 2nd St. NW in Sidney.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Richland County Cancer Coalition and Sidney Health Center's Cancer Care Center through the Foundation for Community Care. The Cancer Coalition offers assistance to individuals with a cancer diagnosis with non-medical household expenses; while the Cancer Care Center provides the latest and most up to date medical equipment and programs.
