Fairview boxers Alainah Baxter and Martin Manuel came out on top at the Junior Olympics Regional Boxing Tournament held in Casper, WY May 1&2.
The Junior Olympics run started in Darby, Mont. where both boxers took state. They now advance to the national competition in Charleston, W.Va. June 8-13.
This is the first time since the 1990s that a Fairview boxer has made it to nationals and boxing coach Kirby Sundheim is excited about taking Baxter and Manuel. "They are very dedicated, they love the sport, they're at practice all the time. It's a worthwhile investment," he said. Even though the boxers are pretty green, the parents also want them to go for the experience. Thanks to the many generous sponsors who have supported the club this season, the trip to West Virginia is booked.
The Fairview Boxing Club will wrap up its regular season this weekend at the Montana State Novice Tourney in Great Falls.
