Using EPD's To Improve Herd Genetics

Presented by MSU Extension Beef Cattle Specialist – Dr. Rachel Endecott

Rachel Endecott is the MSU Extension Beef Cattle Specialist located on campus in Bozeman. She was raised on a family cow-calf operation near Ennis, MT, and is still an integral part of the ranch today. She received her BS in Animal Science at Montana State University, and her MS and PhD in range beef cattle nutrition at New Mexico State University. Rachel spent 5 and one-half years as the Extension Beef Cattle Specialist in Miles City before moving her program to campus in July 2012. She also teaches the 400-level Beef Cattle Management class and advises the Academic Quadrathlon team and Collegiate Stockgrowers club.

Rachel will be presenting her topic: "Expected Progeny Differences and Cattle Selection," on Friday, January 16th at 11:30 a.m. She will be covering the basics of cattle EPDs and how those values can be used to help cow-calf producers make selection decisions.
