WATFORD CITY: There is something about the holidays that makes everyone feel spirited. Each of us have special holiday memories and I thought it'd be fun to ask some of the residents of the Good Shepherd Home (GSH) to share their memories with us. Activity Director, Jackie Beasley, asked the following three questions to four residents of the Good Shepherd Home:
1.) When you think of Christmas, what is your best memory?
2.) What do you like best about the holiday season?
3.) What did you do on Christmas Eve?
Gladys Wisness shared a special memory. She stated, "As a young girl, my aunt took a piece of fabric and made me a nice orchid Christmas dress and I was asked to read this poem at the school Christmas program; I was not even in school yet.
Roses on my shoulders, slippers on my feet, I am mama's darling, don't you think I'm sweet."
Gladys likes 'family time' best about the holiday season. She remembers opening presents and spending time with family on Christmas Eve.
Joann Wash says her best memory of Christmas is "The memory of my parents hiding the presents." Joann likes that the holiday season is a celebration of the Lord's birthday. Like many others, Joann celebrated with relatives on Christmas Eve.
Arnold Peterson's best memory of Christmas is the memory of his family being together. Spending time with family is the one thing he likes best about the holiday season. Arnold remembers playing Santa Claus and putting presents under the tree on Christmas Eve.
When Ethelyn Basol was asked what her best Christmas memory was, she stated "Just a small gift from my parents was so much." She enjoyed seeing family and dear friends during the holiday season. Ethelyn remembers eating Christmas goodies on Christmas Eve.
The Good Shepherd Home has many activities scheduled throughout the month of December including: Saturday matinee Christmas movies, special programs from the Watford City kindergarteners, performances by the Watford City High School choir, carolers from Johnson's Corner, Christmas sing alongs and a New Year's Eve celebration with hors d'oeuvres, refreshments and New Year's resolutions. There is sure to be new memories made at the GSH this holiday season.
