Grinch Project and the Salvation Army
It is once again that time of year! The holidays are upon us; with them comes the spirit of giving, time with family and friends, and giving to people in the community. The Salvation Army is in need of families, businesses, individuals and people of all ages to ring the Salvation Army Christmas bells and give back a little this holiday season. Our local Salvation Army is headed up by Major Bob Burnison from Sidney’s Police Department. Bob, his amazing team of volunteers, and the Salvation Army organization do many things in Sidney that a lot of people don’t even know about. The Salvation Army provides emergency housing assistance, some food assistance, clothing, transportation assistance and links to other services that provide to those in need. All of the proceeds from this event stay in Richland County. The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Sidney is always busy and the proceeds from sales go to assisting locals in need.
The Christmas Bell ringing is one of the most important times of the year for the Salvation Army in that much of the funding that supports the organization and people in need comes from this event. Last year the Bell Ringing made $7,585.20 for the Salvation Army and this year we would like to exceed that. To add a different element to the Salvation Army bell ringing, RSVP will be assisting Salvation Army in procuring volunteers and donations by doing a new Grinch fundraiser. The idea will be very similar to the pink flamingos that have been used in the past in Richland County, but to move the Grinch you donate 25 dollars, which will go to the RSVP Department to support volunteers and participation in community events, or you provide volunteers to ring the bells. After the kick off at the Christmas Stroll on November 28th, bell ringing will be held at IGA and Reynolds until December 20th. Ringing the bell is a great way to give back and do something selfless for the holidays. What better way to get in the holiday spirit then spending time with family and friends and raising money for a great cause. Any businesses interested in participating, in the “You’ve Been Grinched” Fundraiser, or any families or individuals who want to volunteer may contact Rita or Greta at the RSVP office to sign up for a shift at 406-433-2207.
