Richland County Food Bank Relies Strictly on Donations

The Richland County Food Bank, a vital 501C Non-profit organization in our community, is in need of donations. As the population climbs and the cost of living rises, the food bank is seeing a much greater need for assistance.

In September of 2013, the Richland County Food Bank served 63 adults and 35 children. That number more than doubled in September of 2014 when they served 154 adults and 45 children. In addition to the growing need for assistance, the food bank only took in half of the amount of donated food needed to serve that number of people. As a result, they have to reduce the amount of food given to each family in order to meet the need.

Candy Markwald of the Richland County Food Bank states, “We will do everything we can to help families.” She adds, “We have a great need for hygiene products, human needs products, and non-expired food items. A can of tuna or a dollar – we are grateful for both.”

The Richland County Food Bank relies strictly on food and monetary donations. They are located at 123 W. Main in the back of the Nutter Building and are open on Monday and Thursday by appointment only.

If you are in need of food assistance or know somebody who is, call 406-433-8142 and leave a message. They will get back to you.

If you or your organization is able to make a food or monetary donation, please call Candy at 406-433-8142. All donations are greatly appreciated.
