On Saturday, October 25 the North Dakota Motocross Association held its 39th Annual Awards Banquet in Mandan, ND. Several area athletes raced throughout the summer competing for the year-end-points and were awarded trophies. Among these riders were William and Wes VanHook of Sidney, MT.
Wes, who is 10 years old, finished 1st in the 65 (10-11yrs) class, 1st in the 85 (9-11yrs) class and 3rd in the Supermini class. Wes had a stellar year racing the NDMA, Big Sky MX Challenge Series, the Donny Schmitt Memorial races in Milliville, MN and Sturgis. Wes attended 20 races, raced 112 motos, 59 of which were 1st place finishes, and a total of 32 overall first place finishes in his classes combined. Wes' success led him to earn "Rider of the Year" which is voted on by all NDMA members. This award ended in a tie which Wes shares with his friend and mentor, Ryan Peters, an Open Pro rider from Mandan, ND.
William Van Hook, who is 12 years old, ended the season with a 3rd in the 2-Stroke class, 3rd in the 85 (12-15yrs) class, and 4th in the Supermini class. After missing the first 4 races due to a broken arm, William proved himself race after race earning high places even though missing critical points at the beginning of the season.
William and Wes' little sister, Whitney also raced this season finishing 13th in the 65 (7-9yrs) class.
William and Wes spend countless hours practicing and pushing each other to be better and they couldn't do this without the people who help support them throughout the year. They would like to thank their mom and dad, who is also their mechanic, their Grandpa Barry for his encouragement and for always keeping them fueled up, and Grandma Nancy. They would also like to thank EDI, Quilts & More, Full Throttle Motosports, the Peters family, and Chip Ellis.
Other area athletes receiving awards were Morgan Holte, Bainville, MT, 2nd place in the women's class, Josh Aisenbrey, Sidney, MT, 6th in the Supermini and 85 (12-15yrs) classes, Jeret Aisenbrey, Sidney, MT, 5th in the 85 (12-15yrs) and 7th in the Supermini classes.
