Sidney Selected as Montana's Newest Geological Marker

Montana has a very colorful geologic history with black rock, red rock, limestone, sandstone and mineral deposits such as Coal and Oil. Designed to teach about the geographical wonders of Montana, Former First Lady Nancy Schweitzer, First Lady Lisa Downs-Bullock and the Montana Department of Transportation have installed nearly 50 roadside geo-markers commemorating geologic and paleontological sites throughout the state.

The Board and Staff of the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture are honored to announce that Sidney been selected as the recipient of Montana’s newest Geological Marker. Entitled “The Elm Coulee Oil Field: Birthplace of the Bakken Oil Boom” the geo-marker will be located in front of the chamber building.

An unveiling ceremony will be held at 2 pm on September 26th at the chamber office at 909 South Central Avenue. MDOT Director Mike Toole, Lt. Governor Angela McLean, Sidney Mayor Rick Norby, and The Richland County Commissioners will be on hand for this dedication ceremony. Refreshments will be served in the chamber building following the service.
