The Richland County Family Resource Center, in collaboration with the Sidney-Richland County Library, continues to offer the Parenting Wisely CD-ROM program for parents of children ages 3-9. The Parenting Wisely program can be completed in approximately two hours at the library on a laptop computer.
Not only will you gain some great tips for parenting, but you can earn some pretty great prizes as well! The Family Resource Center is offering prizes for the first 8 people to complete the program! Prizes you can choose include a free afternoon of childcare (4 hours) at Small World Daycare (two of these available!), two Richland County Transportation gift certificates for $20 worth of rides, two $20 grocery cards, and two month long passes to Healthworks. Prizes are on a first come, first serve basis, so if you want your choice of prize, take the program early!
In the Parenting Wisely program, parents are able to choose from seven different video enactments of typical family struggles, including: misbehaving at the grocery store, interrupting telephone conversations, problems getting along with friends, how to parent with stepchildren or grandparents in the home, school and homework problems, sibling fighting, and how to get children out of bed and ready for school in time. After viewing each topic, users must choose from a list of options representing different levels of effectiveness. Each behavior is portrayed and then critiqued through an interactive question and answer session. The in-depth tutorials highlight the parenting skills depicted in the videos, and give further insight into beneficial behavior. Each session is then concluded with a quiz, further engraining the information.
To participate in this quick and simple class to enhance your parenting skills and have the opportunity to earn one of these exciting prizes, stop by the Sidney-Richland County Library, or contact Nicole Hackley at 433-4097.
