Carl was born April 17, 1925, in Culbertson, MT to Fred and Anna (Damm) Miller. He was raised there until they moved to the Yellowstone Valley where they lived on various farms in the East Fairview and Dore area. Carl and two of his brothers were drafted into the army but he received a farm deferment because of the sugar shortage and he was needed on the family farm. While living at Dore, ND, near the Big Opening, they were neighbors to the Falkenhagen family and where Carl met the love of his life, Avis Falkenhagen. They were united in marriage on March 3, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairview, MT. They made their home on the Miller farm NE of Dore for two years until they purchased a farm and lived in a log house in the Big Opening. In 1957 they bought and moved to the Miller family farm SE of Fairview where Carl continued to live until 2013 when he entered the Bethel Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Williston, ND.

Carl and Avis had six children who worked on the farm and helped with the many chores including milking cows, raising chickens, irrigating, and working in the sugar beet fields. Carl loved the farm and often worked long hours to keep it running. He shared his strong work ethic with his children and grandchildren. They loved having their grandchildren spend time on the farm and over the years many of their nieces and nephews would come to visit "Uncle Charlie and Aunt Avis". They always opened their door to anyone who wanted to experience and enjoy the outdoor life on the farm.

Carl also worked at the Holly sugar beet factory for several winters. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir in his earlier years. He and Avis loved to dance.

Carl Miller, 89, a longtime resident of McKenzie County, joined the Lord and his wife, Avis, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Williston, ND. Carl will be remembered by many for his "Peace" signs and warm smile to greet those around him.

Carl is survived by three daughters; Sharon (Dale) Fessler, and Lois (Kent) Reierson, both of Williston, ND, and Julie (Keith) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, Terry (Wanda) and Toby (Vicky) of Fairview; son-in-law, Bill Jacobson; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; 3 sisters, Leona (Dale) Ost, Annabelle (Harlow) Bieber, Barb (Larry) Luger; 2 brothers, Robert and Leo (Shirley) Miller.
