The “Trashy Tuesday” drive will be held this coming Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Richland Opportunities, Inc. located at 1100 Silurian Lane in Sidney. This is the 4th year of quarterly plastic, paper, cardboard and aluminum can drives. The drives are being sponsored by the Recycling Advisory Committee. The committee consists of area citizens who would like to ensure that the community has an opportunity to recycle material that cannot be recycled using the current resources. Their goal is to provide a more comprehensive and sustainable recycling program in the area. This volunteer committee consists of George Biebl, Russ Huotari, Jackie Couture, Linette and Greg Miller, Heather Luinsta, Jeff Hintz, Cindy Eleson, Leah Norby, Dan Peters, Randy Olson, Leslie Whiteman and Gary and Emily Schaff.
During this event, the materials that will be accepted are plastic bottles #1, plastic bottles #2-7, office and junk mail, newspapers and magazines, and cardboard The committee volunteers ask that plastic bottles be rinsed and sorted into two groups, #1 and #2-7. Examples of plastic bottles include milk jugs, and laundry detergent, dish soap, and hair product bottles. As long as the container has a threaded neck which is smaller than the base, it can be taken to the drive. All paper products can be recycled with the exception of manila envelopes and bright neon paper. The office/junk mail must be sorted from the newspapers and magazines. Catalogs and telephone books cannot be accepted.
Trashy Tuesdays are scheduled the 3rd or 4th Tuesday of every 3rd month of the year (quarterly) from 3pm to 7pm and the public is encouraged to recycle their material on this day. Trashy Tuesday’s drive on April 22nd is open to the public and free of charge. Please start collecting for the next drive scheduled on July 22, 2014. Because these recycling drives depend on volunteers, the committee encourages the public to recycle during the drive and become involved in assisting with recycling. If you are interested in joining the Recycling Advisory Committee or would like more information on recycling drives please contact Dan at 406-488-3341, extension #4 or [email protected]. Bring your recyclables on Tuesday and “toss it our way.”
