Andrea and Dick Davidson purchased their home north of Sidney 21 years ago. It was dark and outdated even then. Today, they have a beautiful, bright living space with all the latest features. "I waited 21 years to do this, and I'll never do it again," Andrea said. "I wanted to do it right." With the invaluable assistance of their general contractor Jesse Thom and expert advice from Brenda Larson of Creative Solutions, Davidsons flip flopped their kitchen and dining room and made some changes in the living room which add up to an open inviting space.
A center wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed, creating more cupboard space in the new kitchen. A huge island now separates the two rooms and has become the hub of the house. The island features Dura Supreme cabinetry in cherry wood with Mission stain with black accent and a Cambria quartz countertop in brownhill color.
Since the rooms were flip flopped, the plumbing had to be redone as well. Olson Plumbing installed a reverse osmosis system and redid the plumbing.
A large window in the kitchen and a glass and wood door in the dining room provide awesome views of the valley. New windows, all from Big Sky Siding and Windows, were also installed in the living room.
Andrea's main wish in the kitchen was a double oven. She now has a microwave/convection oven on top and an oven/convection oven on the bottom. She was able to install an induction stove top which she loves. The pot filler installed near the stove is another feature Andrea loves. The cabinetry is Dura Supreme with Southhaven door pattern in maple wood finished with a wheat stain with coffee glaze.
A special feature designed by Larson and Thom is the wine rack above the refrigerator where bottles of wine and Andrea's glass collection are highlighted. Another ingenious feature is a catch on the bottom of the garbage drawer which allows for hands free opening. The stainless steel appliances were purchased from Sears. Vince Buss did all the drywall, removed the popcorn ceiling and retextured it. Luinstra Construction finished off the look in the kitchen with beautiful tile work with tile purchased at TriFecta Home Center.
The toughest decision was the lighting. Gurney Electric helped Davidson's choose the perfect lighting for the dining room and the kitchen. An elegant chandelier provides lighting in the dining room and pendant lights highlight the island while LED lights under the cabinets provide excellent lighting, with no shadows, for the work areas. The lights are on dimmer switches, allowing for perfect lighting for any occasion. USB ports were installed under the island top and on the wall with the light switches. Andrea does a lot of computer work at home and can now just plug in!
The wood look vinyl throughout the kitchen, living and dining rooms was purchased and installed by Chad's Furniture.
The stairway used to feature a half wall with wood poles. Now, it is an open half wall with a granite top which ties in with the island. New furniture in the dining room, purchased from TriFecta Home Center, finishes the living area.
The entire space evokes comfort, warmth and conversation while being efficient and easy to keep clean. With Davidsons' busy lives, the remodel is perfect.
