Pat Schermerhorn is a full time artist with a studio at Stone Soup Studios, Cody, WY. The people, places and things in the west that she loves provide the subject matter for most of her work. Animals, whether wild or domestic, are a real love and are featured prominently in her portfolio.
Schermerhorn belongs to a group that meets and hires a model once a week. “What a great experience,” she says. She participates in many Quick Draws and uses a live model whenever she can. She also teaches classes to adults and children on drawing, pastel, scratchboard and pen and ink.
Shermerhorn works in all those mediums, but prefers pen and ink. “I started working with pen and ink several years ago and began developing a technique of stippling with technical pens and colored inks. Although I still like working with other mediums, most of my work is done in pen and ink.”
With an education background that includes the Zemesky and Hines Pro Art Workshop in Big Timber, MT and the Famous Artist Course by correspondence, Schermerhorn continues to attend as many workshops as she can and is also self taught. She has been the recipient of many awards over the years including taking first place in drawing at the Western Heritage Show in Great Falls, twice. She was also awarded first place in Fine Art for the Wyoming Historical Society and first place in Drawing by the Wyoming Artist Association. Her painting ‘Teton Horses’ was selected to hang in Wyoming congressional offices in Washington, D.C. by the Wyoming Artist association.
Schermerhorn’s work will be on display, as part of the Blue Buffalo Artists, at the MonDak Heritage Center in Sidney during the month of October.
