It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you-Author Unknown. The Elks Lodge of Sidney, Montana invites community, military personnel, veterans and their families to attend the first annual Honor Ride and Service Appreciation Day on July 27th.
“It is just to say thank you for what you’ve done on behalf of our country,” said Jodie Leland, committee chair.
Proceeds from the Honor Ride will support the Honor Flight Network, a non-profit organization that arranges for local WWII Veterans to fly to their War Memorial in Washington D.C.
This year’s event is sponsored by; Richland County Health Department, Senior Corps RSVP, Sidney VFW, Monty and Jolene Erikson, Richland County Transportation and Pepsi.
At 9:00 attendees will be served breakfast to kick off a 150 mile Honor Ride. The Classic Car and Motorcycle ride is open to the public; non-veterans will pay a $20 fee for their poker hand. The run begins at 11:00 with stops at: Sidney, Lambert, Richey, Glendive, Savage, and back to Sidney. Snacks are arranged at some of the stops.
At 2:00 Richland County Transportation will be available to transport veterans who may need a ride to the Elks. To schedule transportation call them at 406-433-7433.
Those who chose not to attend the Honor Ride can enjoy a social gathering to include card games at the Elks Lodge. Pinochle, whist, canasta, and cribbage will be available to all who would like to relax in cool comfort. Richland County Health Network and the RSVP Senior volunteers will help veterans wishing to apply for the Honor Flights to Washington, DC. Snacks and prizes will be included in the afternoon’s fun.
At 5:00 VFW members will perform a flag raising and plaque dedication ceremony with a planned fly-over by our local aviation experts. The Elks, Myrna’s Merrymakers, will serve a free-will donation roast beef dinner with all the fixings at 5:15. There will be no charge to our honored servicemen and women.
At 5:15 attendees will enjoy the sounds of Dixieland Jazz Band from Scobey to entertain until 8:00 p.m.
