Janae Susanne Moore, 20, Sidney, MT

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 16, at the Sidney High School Gymnasium with Pastor Paul Turek of Faith Alliance Church officiating. Janae Susanne Moore was born Oct. 3, 1992 in Sidney, Montana, to David and Terri (Kirkpatrick) Moore. Her entrance to this world began in the back of a pickup at Swanson Field during a Sidney Eagles football game. We always wondered if that is how she acquired such a competitive spirit. She grew up attending Sidney Public Schools and started her sports career in the 2nd grade. After a couple of years of being her big brother’s at-home training dummy (often against her will) she made it official and joined the Sidney Wrestling Club and tried her hand on the mats for a year. This was the beginning of Janae making boys cry! She also began little girls softball in the 2nd grade and continued in softball until she graduated. Her life-long passion, basketball, began in the 4th grade playing in the school leagues. Starting in the 7th grade in addition to the school leagues, she started playing on the Shooting Starz traveling team coached by Kevin and Ira Lake. She always credited Kevin and Ira with much of her success in her career and cherished their very special relationship, she loved them both very much. This is also where many lifelong friendships with her teammates began. As a freshman she made the Eagles varsity squad and became a starter early on and continued as a starter all four years, never missing a game. Her only missed time was due to her aggressive playing style, getting herself into foul trouble often when she was younger. Opposing teams learned quickly that if you stole the ball from Janae, you were probably going to be fouled. As a junior, she was proud to be part of the 2010 Lady Eagles Eastern A Conference Champions and Montana Class A State runner-up basketball team. Janae lettered all four years in softball and basketball, received numerous awards: Softball: two years, All-Conference 2nd Team; Basketball: three years, All-Conference, one year 1st Team All-Conference, one year All-State Selection; Senior year, Most Outstanding Senior Girl Athlete of the Year Award. She also excelled academically, being on the Honor Roll all four years. Other clubs she was involved in were FCCLA, Leo Club, National Honor Society and Close Up. During and after high school she worked at Pizza House, M&M Café, Dairy Queen, Eagle Oilfield Services and South 40 Restaurant. Her last job was working at the South Rock Creek Marina at Fort Peck Lake. Fort Peck was her favorite place for a lot of reasons: she enjoyed the quiet time she had staying at a cabin at North Rock Creek where she was able to get closer to The Lord, reading, doing her daily running and conditioning to prepare herself for her junior year of college basketball, boating, wake boarding and tubing with her family and friends. She began her college career following high school at Dickinson State University, playing for the Lady Blue Hawks Basketball Team. She was awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program Scholarship, and worked hard to maintain her high GPA even while conditioning and playing her favorite sport. She made the Dean’s List both years she attended. After her sophomore year, Janae was ranked 20th nationally in the NAIA Division I in field goal percentage. She also led her team in rebounds, points per game, field goal percentage and steals per game. She cherished all her teammates and loved them as her sisters, always having their best interests at heart.

Janae was the epitome of life and beauty inside and out. Her smile, her spirit, her love of Christ, her strength, her wisdom beyond her years, her loyalty, her love of family and friends, her perseverance through good times and bad, her sense of humor, and contagious laugh made all who were blessed to know and love her, so much better for it. Janae really LIVED! No matter where she was… at home, on the court, on the diamond, on a wakeboard, in the kitchen baking Beckie’s Brownies, or at the table playing Taboo with her family and friends. Janae gave it her all every time. Janae was a child of God who lived for The Lord. Amazingly, almost prophetically, Janae shared this quote with everyone an hour before she left this world: “Praise God, Even When You Don’t Understand What He Is Doing”. Thank you Janae, for these comforting words in our darkest hour! You are loved and missed beyond expression by so many people. Rest in love and peace our beautiful angel.

Janae is survived by her parents, David and Terri (Kirkpatrick) Moore of Sidney; her brother Josh, his wife Hailee and their daughter, Janae’s niece, Ainsleigh of Sidney; two sisters, Jennifer Moore and Jozi Moore, both of Sidney; grandparents, Ralph Kirkpatrick of Glendive, MT, and Dave and Susanne Moore of Sidney; Aunt Dorothy “Dottie” (Moore) Wilson and her husband Stewart of Havre, MT; Aunt Diane (Kirkpatrick) Anderson and her husband Paul of Terry, MT; Uncle Doug Kirkpatrick and his wife Geri (Oas) of Glendive, MT; Uncle David Kirkpatrick of Billings, MT; Uncle James Moore and his wife Casey (Gordon) of Spearfish, S.D .; Cousins Nathan Damm and his wife Samantha (Heupel) of Sidney, Russell Damm and his wife Shayla (Sykes) of Bozeman, MT, Michelle Burns (Jose Morales) of Havre, MT, Jade Kirkpatrick and his wife Mickayla (Wiseman) of Bismarck, ND, Kayleigh Kirkpatrick (Nathaniel Packineau) of Parshall, ND; Sara (Kuntz) Bond and her husband Tom of Missoula, MT, James Kirkpatrick of Billings, MT, Lacee Tipton of Billings, MT, Jason Erhardt of Billings, MT, Maggie and Keeley Stewart of Havre, MT, McKenzie and Carter Jones of Spearfish, SD, and Megan Cordell of Spearfish, SD.

Janae is preceded in death by her Grandmother Leona Kirkpatrick and her Aunt and Uncle Linda (Moore) Damm and husband, Kenny of Sidney, MT.
