Homefest is a Watford City tradition that celebrates class and family reunions, street dances and warm weather. This year’s Homefest is Thursday, June 27 through Saturday, June 29. The weekend festivities start on Thursday night and do not stop until Saturday night.
Thursday evening opens the weekend with Summer Sounds from 5-8 p.m. featuring Lonesome Willy and Jessie Veeder performing at the Tourist Park at 6 p.m .; there will be food provided by local organizations as a fundraiser.
Friday begins with a petting zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dakota West Credit Union. The day continues from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the Homefest Street Fair on Main Street featuring a dog parade at 2:30 p.m .; crafters, food and commercial vendors along with kids games (noon to 2 p.m.) including an obstacle course, giant Jenga, bag toss, badminton, ring toss and ladder ball followed by a Kids Zone from 2-8 p.m. with Jump N’ Fun Inflatables.
The Golf Scrambles will also be held on Friday at the Fox Hills Golf Course (contact Fox Hills to sign up at 701-842-2074). The Oldies but Goodies Golf Scramble will be held at 1 p.m. with light lunch and registration at 11:30 a.m. The Trish Gravos Memorial Golf Scramble is at 5 p.m. with registration at 4 p.m. and everyone, golfers and non-golfers, are welcome to join the Steak Fry at Fox Hills Golf Course at 5:30 p.m.
The Watford City High School Honor Society will host School Tours from 2-4 p.m. and Missoula Children’s Theatre will perform “Betty Lou and the Country Beast” at Watford City High School at 7 p.m. Then, finish the night off on Main Street with a street dance featuring Filthy Beats & Blue Sky Devils.
Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. with the Homefest Road Race at the Connie Wold Wellness Center (for more information, contact 701-842-6307). Also, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., join in Art in the Park at the Watford City Tourist Park featuring local crafters and artists showcasing their work. Sit back and listen to The Music Machine featuring Jeff Nelson while the kids enjoy the antics of Dizzy & Cloudy Clowns. Make sure to check out the food vendors, Badlands Gymnastics Performance (11 a.m.), Jeff Meyer & The Blue Sky Devils (noon), the Homefest Baby Pageant (newborns to 24 months) at 3 p.m. and Jessie Veeder & Friends at 4 p.m.
Other activities to fill the day are Coed Mud Volleyball at the Tourist Park (registration at noon, $30 per team); Missoula Children’s Theatre presenting “Betty Lou and the Country Beast” at WCHS at 2 p.m .; Homefest Fish Fry from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to support Rotary of Watford City and Homefest Fun on Main Street with kids games, Jump N’ Fun Inflatable and the adult Coed Team Games Competition at 7 p.m. End the weekend at the street dance with K-Hook from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
