The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to chip seal about 7.3 miles of Highway 16, north of Culbertson. The project begins at the intersection with U.S. 2, at reference marker 88.62 and extends north for 7.3 miles ending near the intersection of County Road 2051-5 (reference marker 81.35).
Proposed work includes a seal & cover (chip seal), repairing severe dips in the roadway, improving truck turning radii at the intersection with U.S. 2, upgrading pavement marking, and signing as necessary. Construction is tentatively planned for 2014 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities may be required at the intersection with U.S. 2. MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
