Ten free radon test kits are available for Richland County residents. Test kits will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, and must be reserved by calling Stephanie Ler at 406-433-2207.
Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas found in many homes. Radon comes from the breakdown of uranium, which is found naturally in soil, and enters the home through tiny cracks and holes in the foundation. Studies have shown that continued exposure to high levels of radon gas increases the risk of developing lung cancer. Radon levels in a home can only be identified by radon testing.
In an effort to develop a more comprehensive radon program in Montana, the Department of Environmental Quality has partnered with Accustar Labs to distribute test kits and retain the data collected from each test kit.
For questions or to reserve a radon test kit, please contact Stephanie Ler at 406-433-2207.
