Are You Too Busy?

It certainly is a busy time for all of us in Richland County. Many businesses are struggling with fewer employees to do the same or even increased amounts of work. It is a time that “Time Management” skills may prove to be, more than ever, helpful to review and implement.

In exercising our time management skills, it is advised to first assess where you are currently spending your time. Our time can be categorized into four areas: 1) those tasks that require our urgent attention and are very important such as deadlines and a crisis, 2) those tasks that are somewhat urgent but not necessarily as important such as some phone calls, meetings, etc. 3) those tasks that are not very important and not very urgent but seem easier to find the time to do such as pleasant activities, the easier tasks of our jobs or 4) those tasks that are important but not urgent such as relationship building, planning activities, and growing new opportunities for your work site.

It is not unusual when we assess where we spend most of our time we find that a dedicated person will be spending most of their time on urgent tasks, both important as well as not important. But many times, it is felt that a lot of people do not spend enough time in the category of tasks that are important but not urgent such as planning. By choosing not to find time to spend on activities such as planning and prevention, you may be losing out on an opportunity to get an investment of your time. For example, making a little more time in your schedule to plan for the future may reap many benefits in the future for you and your company.

Every citizen of Richland County as well as any county employee, or business owner is being a given a chance to put their true time management skills to the test. You have an opportunity arising in March to spend a fraction of your time on an activity that is an investment in not only your job, or business but in your family, neighbors and friends future as well.

Please actively participate in the 5th Annual Community Wide Conference to be held Monday March 18th 5:00 to 7:30 pm & Tuesday March 19th 8:30 am to 4:00 pm as a “Richland County Open House” platform held at the Event Center in Sidney.
