The Sidney High School Drill Team was recently named the winner of the “Academic All-Team Award” for the Fall season in Class A by the Montana High School Association and the Montana Army National Guard.
The top three Class A schools in the state came in with the following cumulative GPAs: Coming in first was Sidney High School with a 3.570 GPA, second was Havre High School with a 3.375 GPA, and third was Butte Central High School with a 3.359 GPA.
The Sidney Drill Team practices pretty much every day before school, starting at 5:40 am. They also perform at every game that they can. Coach Virginia Dschaak, who has coached Drill Team for 20+ years, when asked to describe these girls simply stated, “Unbelievable.” These girls not only practice daily and perform at every game, but they are also involved in other clubs and organizations within the school.
The Drill Team girls had the following GPAs for the fall semester: Taylor Theissen- 4.0, Brianna Reid- 4.0, Eliska Cvrkalova- 3.857, Katlyn Winter- 3.857, Megan Johnson- 3.846, Jalyssa Gorder- 3.846, Tori Hill- 3.714, Chelsea Strasheim- 3.692, and Tessa Dahl- 3.5.
Also joining the team this year is new coach, Kris Radke. Coach Radke has always had a passion for dance, and as Coach Dschaak stated, “She is doing a great job. She is respected by the girls.”
The Montana High School Association and the Montana Army National Guard are planning to present the team with their award during an upcoming winter sports activity.
