February is National Snack Food Month, and what better way to celebrate healthy snacking than helping local children? This year is the seventh annual snack drive of the Richland County Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Club provides daily after-school snacks for around 85 children, and relies on our donations to accomplish this. The snack drive is promoted by the Richland County Nutrition Coalition (RCNC), as it is a great opportunity to encourage healthy snacking among children.
Interested in donating and supporting the local Boys and Girls Club? It’s easy. Simply visit the local grocery stores, Reynolds or Reese and Ray’s IGA. They have kindly made pre-filled grocery bags available that you can purchase and then leave at the store. You can also drop off donations of healthy snacks at the Richland County Extension Office at 1499 N Central Avenue in Sidney. Examples of healthy snacks include peanut butter, jerky, trail mix, crackers, dried fruits, 100% fruit/veggie juice and others. An expanded list of healthy snacks is available at the Boys and Girls Club or the Extension Office. Monetary donations are also welcome, as they can be used for purchasing fresh foods such as fruits, vegetables and dairy products.
The snack drive will run throughout the month of February. If you have questions contact Sara at 433-6763 or Ludmila at 433-1206.
