Curt Moen, Watford City Planner, spoke to Watford City chamber members last week about retail opportunities and other developments in the greater Watford City area. He reviewed issues concerning the oil and gas industry and quality housing, outlining the challenges of the past 18 months including dust, roads, wear and tear on infrastructure, and the cost of development. McKenzie County received $12 million from the state last year, which was spent in 6 months. This year, they are requesting $110 million which would be used, in part, to improve the water system and meet the growing demand for daycare. Plans include spring completion of a new daycare facility next to the Middle School.
Moen also talked about "taking a leap of faith" concerning the US 2, ND 23 bypass. The final hearing on that project will not be held until late 2012 or early 2013, with work hopefully in full swing by 2014.
