Summer brings with it all sorts of exciting activities, including rodeo. One of the largest and most popular rodeos in our area, the Wolf Point Stampede, will celebrate its 89th year this year and will include the traditional mix of rodeo, carnival, art in the park, and a variety of other activities designed to entertain the entire family.
The celebration begins on Wednesday, July 11 with the carnival opening at 5 p.m. and the KVCK Texaco Country Showdown beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Wolf Point High School auditorium.
On Thursday, July 12, an array of events awaits participants. People can golf in the morning, enjoy hamburgers at noon, visit the carnival beginning at 5 p.m. and attend the first night of rodeo, the “Tough Enough To Wear Pink Night.” The gates open at the Marvin Brookman stadium at 5:30 p.m. with the rodeo beginning at 7 p.m. The evening will end with a street dance.
On Friday, July 13, the PRCA rodeo slack begins at 8 am. The noon parade down Main Street should provide a lot of entertainment with this year’s theme highlighting outlaws of the past. The carnival opens at 5, the Marvin Brookman stadium opens at 5:30, and the second night of rodeo begins at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, people will have enough activities to choose from to keep them busy all day long. Interested individuals can join in the human stampede at 7 a.m. From 7 to 11 a.m., the Wolf Point Museum will sponsor a pancake breakfast. People can attend cowboy church at 9:30 at Firemen’s Park. Art in the Park runs from 10 am until 5 pm, at noon spectators can enjoy an old west shootout reenactment at Fire Hall Park, the outlaws of the past parade will start at 1 p.m., and the Faith Lutheran Home will host a stick horse rodeo on the Home’s front lawn.
The carnival opens at 5, the Marvin Brookman Stadium opens its doors at 5:30, and at 7, the final night of rodeo will begin.
On Sunday, July 15, people can watch the outback 4D barrel race at the Marvin Brookman stadium.
