Laurel and Keith Clawson, Plentywood, will bring their petting zoo animals to the Town and Country Festival, scheduled for Saturday, June 23 in Sidney.
The Clawsons, in the petting zoo business for twelve years, will bring a variety of animals for kids to visit and learn about. “We’ll have calves, ponies, chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits, and a few alpaca,” Laurel remarks. “Kids can come to pet the animals and ask questions.”
Laurel feels the petting zoo not only entertains children but educates them as well and helps them learn more about livestock agriculture. “This is an opportunity for kids in town to better understand the animals that build our economy,” she says. “Children get acquainted with where their food comes from. A petting zoo is an unstructured learning opportunity for kids and it lets them build rapport with animals.”
The Clawsons generally attend approximately twenty festivals each year to display their animals.
