The 2012 IronHeart Duathlon results have been calculated, and congratulations are in order for participants!
This year, 82% of participants reached the mileage goal, and many others were very close. The IronHeart Duathlon is a collaborative effort between Richland Recreation and the Richland County Health Department that encourages the novice or casual athlete to work towards a month-long fitness goal. Participants are challenged to run or walk 13.1 miles and bike 56 miles at HealthWorks over a period of one month in exchange for medals, prizes, and most importantly, improved health and wellness.
Second-time top performer Ken Newhall ran/walked and biked the most miles during the month, and Marci Albin, grand prize winner as well as first place medalist in the 19-35 age group, will receive a $500 gift certificate to PATH Supply TV & Appliance. All participants who completed the challenge were entered into the grand prize drawing. Most improved from 2011, Cathy Hintz, will receive an mp3 player from ElectricLand for improving 111.22% from the 2011 Duathlon.
All participants received a commemorative t-shirt. Top performing participants received medals or plaques to commemorate their success. These were
19-35: Marci Albin, Jen Doty, Monica Reuter
36-50: Ken Newhall, Brock Johnsen, Nikki Trevino
51+: Viola Anderson, Paul Meuller, June Backhaus
Overall Mileage: Ken Newhall, Brock Johnsen, Viola Anderson
