I would like to make a brief statement regarding the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Sherry Arnold. Because this investigation is rapidly moving forward we are not able to provide any details of the case at this time. We will not be taking take any questions at the conclusion of this briefing.

On January 1, 2012 at around 06:30am, Sherry Arnold, 43, teacher, mother and friend went missing while on her morning run. Since that day the entire community of Sidney and the citizens of both Richland County and the entire area have spent countless hours combing both Sidney and Richland County looking for Sherry. Law enforcement personnel have been joined by fire fighters, national guardsmen and hundreds of volunteers in this effort.

Dozens and dozens of tips have been called into the Tip line by residents. Today as a result of a tip we are able to announce that a significant breakthrough has been made in the investigation of the disappearance of Sherry Arnold. Base on information received, law enforcement officers from Williston and Williams County along with agents from the FBI and the North Dakota Criminal Investigation Bureau were able to take a male individual age 47 into custody late last night in Williston, North Dakota in connection with Ms. Arnolds disappearance. He is currently being held in the Williams County jail. Additionally a second male individual age 22 is being detained for questioning in Rapid City, South Dakota.

On behalf of the Arnold Family, along with the Sidney Police Department, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, I would like to thank North Dakota and South Dakota law enforcement officials, the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation and Montana and North Dakota prosecutors along with US Attorney’s offices for their invaluable assistance.
